FINE CASED ARMSTRONG DBL BBL SHOTGUN TWO BBL SET. Cal. 12 ga. SN 41295. Beautiful 7-pin sidelock dbl with cocked indicators, 31 1/16″ steel bbls choked FULL / FULL & 30″ Damascus bbls choked IMP-MOD / IMP-CYL. Both bbls have smooth concave tapered ribs with single beads, 3rd bite rib extensions, dbl lumps with ejectors & dbl triggers. Both sets of bbls are nitro proved & have 2 3/4″ chambers. The receiver and lock plates have full coverage spectacular foliate arabesque engraving with the makers name in a ribbon on each side. The fences and opening levers have well executed oak leaf & acorn patterns. The top tang, trigger guard & forend iron are engraved to match the receiver. It is mounted with modern replacement, highly figured, streaky, French walnut with checkered, splintered forearm & straight stock with raised teardrop side panels 15-1/4″ over a checkered butt. Accompanied by an orig, red felt lined Armstrong leather trunk case with the maker’s diamond shaped label inside the lid, compartmented in the bottom for the stocked receiver & two sets of bbls, not for this shotgun and could be easily repartitioned by competent case maker. It has 1 covered compartment on the left end & an identical compartment on the right end, missing the cover, a cleaning rod compartment, oil bottle and tools compartment, with holes for 2 snap caps. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Bore restrictions: steel bbls left .040- , right..039. Damascus bbls left .031- right-.000 . Wall thickness: steel bbls left .025- , right .024-Damascus bbls left .023- right .026. Bore diameter: steel bbls left .690- , right .694 Damascus left .697- right-.723 . Weight with Damascus bbls: 6 lbs & 14.08 oz. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Entire rig retains virtually all of a spectacular English style restoration. Bbl blue is brilliant. Brown Damascus pattern is vivid & bright & the receiver is clean & bright with traces of case colors. Opening lever and trigger guard retain virtually all of their restored blue. Wood is crisp & retains all of its fine custom finish. Mechanics are crisp, bores in the steel bbls are brilliant. Damascus bbls are also brilliant with a spot or two of light pitting. Handle retainer straps are dry & weak & should be replaced, otherwise the case is sound with some heavy scratches & dings in the lid, but completely intact. Lining is moderately faded & soiled with some mothing and missing one strap. All together a special & wonderful set. 4-56556 JR509 (8,000-12,000)
