*SPECTACULAR CASED PAIR OF WILLIAM EVANS DBL BBL SHOTGUNS. Cal. 12 ga. SN 3536 & 12416. Wonderful pair of doubles with 30″ bbls marked “1” & “2” with tapered concave smooth ribs, sgl bead, doll’s head extension, dbl lump with ejectors & dbl triggers. Bbls #1 are choked MOD/IMP-CYL, bbls #2 are choked IMP-CYL/CYL. They have full sidelock receivers with cocked indicators engraved with about 75% coverage very fine English arabesque patterns with a fine foliate & vine border pattern. Fences on both guns have deep relief foliate patterns & maker’s name is in a ribbon on each lockplate. Opening lever, breech end of rib & forend metal tip have a gold “1” & “2” and top tang has “SAFE” in gold. Mounted in very nicely figured streaky French walnut with checkered splinter forearms & straight stocks with teardrop side panels, 14-1/2″ over thin Pachmayr pads. They have silver initial plates on bottom. Accompanied by their orig oak & leather trunk case with fitted compartments for all the components. It has the maker’s label in lid & “ROBERT C. MAY” embossed on top. Drop at heel: #1: 2-1/8″, #2: 2-1/4″; drop at comb: #1: 1-1/2″, #2: 1-1/2″. Bore restrictions: #1: left – .024, right – .009; #2: left – .012, right – .004. Wall thickness: #1: left – .032, right – .027; #2: left – .029, right – .025. Bore diameter: #1: left – .709, right – .724; #2: left – .720, right – .731. Weight: #1: 6 lbs. 7.36 oz. #2: 6 lbs. 8.32 oz. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Both guns retain virtually all of a very fine professionally restored finish to both metal & wood. Bbls have strong orig type smooth blue while the receiver & lockplates have brilliant case colors. There are fine hairlines back of lockplates on both guns, otherwise wood is sound. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bores. Case shows moderate to heavy wear with a replaced handle & moderately soiled interior. 4-57488 JR119 (20,000-30,000)
