ROPER REVOLVING SHOTGUN. Cal 16 ga. NSN. Early repeating shotgun with 26-1/2” cannon muzzle bbl with brass bead. It has very nicely figured stock and forearm with beautifully engraved receiver. The left side depicts a hunter in a marsh scene with dog, shooting ducks and the right side a hunter in a field scene with a bird dog. The pewter forend cap and rear spacer are also engraved as is the upper tang. It is accompanied by a 1-pc leather scabbard that appears to be original to this shotgun. CONDITION: Bbl retains an even dark brown patina with scattered light to moderate pitting, Receiver has been cleaned bright and has light pitting. Buttstock has an old repair through the wrist and the wood retains most of an old refinish. Dark pitted bore. Case is worn and crackled with the carrying handle and straps missing and the flap closure strap a replacement. 4-50512 JR117 (1,500-2,500)
