JUMEAU AUTOMATON BY LAMBERT. A classic as well as an all original example of a French automaton from the 1890s featuring a young lady with a mirror and powder puff standing upon a mustard colored velvet box. This young lady with piercing blue paperweight eyes, pale bisque, closed mouth and finely detailed bisque hands retains her original very pale pink fanciful satin dress. When activated one of the two tunes is a most recognizable song, she powders her face, looks to left and right, tips her head then raises her mirror to observe her own beauty. This automaton comes with her own glass dome with ebonized wood base. Although head is unmarked, it is unmistakably manufactured by Jumeau and typically known as a scrub mark since there is a small white patch at rear crown. Piece retains original iron key marked “LB”. SIZE: Approx. 5″ l x 5″ w x 21″ t. CONDITION: Overall very fine plus with slight fading to satin outfit and overall minimal dusting to this 100 year old piece. Bisque head appears to be without damage, however original wig has not been fully removed. Neckline of doll has minute minimal paint miss from original manufacturing. 1-11505 (6,000-8,000)
