*GEORGE GIBBS BEST QUALITY DOUBLE RIFLE. Cal. 280 Flanged. SN 20352. Fine double rifle with 23″ bbls, pedestal mounted day/night front sight with articulated hood. It has platinum line, 5-leaf express sight (1 standing, 4 folding) graduated 100-900 yards, mounted on a quarter rib. The swamped part of the rib has the makers name & address and the ends of the rib & pedestal ramp are nicely engraved. Rear end of rib is hand serrated with a doll’s head extension/ third bite with dbl chopper lumps, ejectors, & dbl triggers. Restocked with very highly figured, streaky, honey & chocolate, checkered French walnut with short forearm and capped pistol grip stock with straight comb & cheekpiece with smooth butt. Grip cap is case hardened with a small parts trap. Receiver and all appended iron are beautifully engraved with extremely fine, tight English scroll patterns having almost full coverage. Maker’s name is on each side and it has “SAFE” in gold on the top tang. Accompanied by one full 10-rd box of Kynoch cartridges and 5 rnds of virgin Bertram brass. CONDITION. Very fine. Bbls retain brilliant English style restored blue with only minor muzzle edge wear. Receiver retains most of its restored case hardening with the bottom 1/3 fading to silver and the top 2/3 strong, bright colors. Triggerguard retains about all of its professionally restored finish. Wood is sound with minor handling & storage marks and retains virtually all of its professionally restored finish. Wood to metal fit on the stock around receiver & rear edge of forearm has a small gap, probably from shrinkage. Mechanics are fine. Strong bright bores, frosty in the grooves.
