*W.A. SUKALLE/ROY VAIL ENGRAVED CUSTOM 98 MAUSER BOLT ACTION RIFLE. SN NSN. Cal. .220 SWIFT. 26″ rnd bbl w/rear target block, 2″ of scroll engr at muzzle, 4-1/4″ engr wedge over chamber and marked, “W.A. SUKALLE-GUNMAKER-PHOENIX, ARIZ.” Caliber designation on left side surrounded by scroll. The 98 Mauser action has target blocks on front and rear bridge, full scroll engr, engr cocking piece, safety at rear of firing pin, 2/3 checkered bolt handle w/flat bottom, engr trigger guard and floor plate w/scroll and gold bull elk on floor plate. Consignor states this was Roy Vail’s personal gun purchased from his estate and was engraved by him. Mounted in highly figured walnut w/sculpted and pointed ebony forend tip, wrap around checkered forearm, checkered pistol grip w/ebony grip cap inlaid w/ivory flying goose. Straight comb w/large left side cheek piece, steel butt plate w/trap and gold initials “RV”. LOP 14″. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 90-95% of its custom blue w/wear at muzzle and a few minor scratches. Receiver has most of its fine custom blue w/some minor shallow pitting on rails. Floor plate blue has been worn and turned a soft blue-brown patina. Stock is sound w/good checkering, a few minor light handling marks and retains most of its fine custom finish.
