WOOTON “STANDARD GRADE” PATENT WALNUT SECRETARY. Circa 1870. This version of the Wooton desk features a three-quarter gallery with burl panels and spool finials. The rectangular case with hinged compartment opening to compartments above a pair of hinged paneled doors with simulated barrel roll, each door fitted with cast brass letter slots and cast locking handle, opening to a central interior fitted with a vertical writing slope, further opening to an arrangement of cubbies and bird’s-eye maple drawers, above a stack of four document drawers flanked by open compartments, the doors fitted with cast brass hinges and mounted with stationery slots, shelves, and drawers. The cabinet enhanced overall with burled raised panels. SIZE: Closed: 76″ h. x 45″ w. x 32-1/2″ d. Open: 91-1/2″ w. x 40″ d. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection.
