*FINE CASED L.C. SMITH GRADE 3E DBL BBL SHOTGUN 2-BBL SET. Cal. 12 ga. SN 205445. Good early Smith with bbls (#1) 28″, & (#2) 26″, both choked MOD/IMP-CYL. Both have tapered concave matted ribs with sgl brass bead with maker’s name at chamber end, crossbolt rib extensions with ejectors & Hunter One trigger. Receiver & lockplates are nicely engraved with large vignettes of two quail in a field scene on left side & two ducks on a pond on right. Maker’s name is on both lockplates & there are light flourishes of arabesque patterns on lockplates & receiver. Mounted with very highly figured, burl & shell grain American Claro walnut with two black insert checkered splinter forearms & semi-pistol grip stock, 13-3/4″ over a serrated hard rubber buttplate. Grade is stamped on receiver under toe of left lockplate inside forend iron of bbl #2 & on bbl flats of both sets of bbls. Accompanied by an early cream color deerskin lined oak & leather case compartmented in bottom for both sets of bbls, receiver, a 3-pc nickeled brass & wood cleaning rod with all bits & holes for two snap caps containing two dummy rnds. Top of lid is embossed “WILLIAM D. ORD / LANDGRAFF, W. VA.”. Case has brass corner reinforcements & a brass lock. Drop at heel: 3-1/2″, drop at comb: 2″. Bore restrictions: Bbl #1: left – .021, right – .006; Bbl #2: left – .021, right – .005. Wall thickness: Bbl #1: left – .024, right – .025; Bbl #2: left – .034, right – .037. Bore diameter: Bbl #1: left – .704, right – .721; Bbl #2: left – .706, right – .721. Weight with 26″ bbls: 7 lbs. 8 oz. CONDITION: Bbls are nearly identical in condition & retain 93-95% orig blue with muzzle & chamber edge wear with some thinning spots. Lockplates retain most of their orig case colors, moderately faded, stronger on left side. Receiver retains about 50-60% orig case colors, strong & bright in sheltered areas, faded elsewhere, turned silver on bottom front end. Wood is sound with good edges & strong checkering, having been lightly cleaned. There is a series of light surface scrapes on left side of buttstock. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores. Case has a few scrapes on lid with moderate soil & lightly soiled interior. Overall is very fine. 4-56672 JR635 (7,500-12,500)
