*CASED RIGBY BIG BORE DOUBLE EXPRESS RIFLE. Cal. 470 Express. SN 17637. Fine dbl rifle with 28” bbls, flat serrated rib with ramp mounted, caterpillar front sight & platinum line, 3-leaf express rear sight, one standing, two folding marked “100 to 300 YARDS”. It has doll’s head rib extension with third bite, dbl underbites, extractor & dbl triggers. Mounted with very nicely figured, English walnut with checkered, splinter forearm that has a lever latch and checkered pistol grip stock with raised side panels, 14-1/2” over a crystallized, leather-faced pad. Receiver has light arabesque pattern engraving around hinge pin with a dbl border line and maker’s name on each side. Left bbl is marked with maker’s name & address and right bbl “SPECIAL 470 BORE BIG GAME RIFLE / FOR SPECIAL CORDITE CARTRIDGE AND BULLET 500 GRAINS”. Bbls are nitro-proofed and marked “CORDITE 75 – 480 MAX”. Inside forend iron, on bottom of both bbls and on standing breech is marked “CLASS D”. Accompanied by a green, felt-lined trunk case, compartmented for bbls & stocked receiver with a hinge covered compartment in left rear corner, embossed on the lid, “MOREHOUSE STEVENS”. It has maker’s label inside lid. Drop at heel: 2-1/2”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 10 lbs. 14.72 oz. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbls retain about 90% glossy bright, orig factory blue with majority of losses from a chemical splash on left side, over chamber area, otherwise virtually all of orig blue is present. Receiver retains 95-96% brilliant, orig factory case colors with one fingernail sized spot of flaking on right side. Triggerguard & floorplate retain virtually all of their glossy orig blue and grip cap about all of its brilliant orig case colors. Wood is sound with minor handling & use marks with a series of small bruises by right side panel and retains virtually all of its orig factory finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores. A scarce & very desirable dangerous game rifle available without the six month to one year wait. Case shows light to moderate wear with some crackling on the lid and light edge wear with some minor soiling inside.
