*STIEGELE LIGHTWEIGHT DRILLING. Cal. 20X20/what appears to be 6.5X38. SN 10749. Beautiful WWI era drilling with 26-3/8″ bbl cluster, matted rib with Sheard caterpillar front sight and manual 2-leaf express sight recessed into the rib. The rib is marked in gold “C. STIEGELE KGL. BAYR. HOE GEWEHR FABRIK MUNCHEN”. The bbls are marked “PRIMA KRUPP SCHER” on the left and “FLUSS-STAHL” on the right. The chamber end of the bbls has one wide and one narrow inlaid gold line and it has a Greener crossbolt extension with dbl bite & extractors. The receiver has 7-pin sidelocks with cocked indicators, side clips and cocked indicator for the rifle on top. The top tang has the thumb switch for the rifle bbl with “SCHR” in gold and a cleverly recessed tiny tang sight. The left lockplate has the Greener thumb safety with “S” in gold. The receiver, lockplates, opening lever & top tang are wonderfully full coverage engraved with game scenes of four partridge on the left side in a wonderfully detailed scene. The right lockplate has equally detailed engraving of a fox & rabbit & two partridge in a woodland scene. The balance of the lockplates and all the rest of the metal are very beautifully engraved with foliate & vine designs with a fine stippled background. It is fitted with nicely figured French walnut wood with checkered splinter forearm and straight grip stock, 13-1/4″ over a serrated horn buttplate which as the impressed serial number at the toe. It has horn trigger guard with the right trigger being set for the rifle and it has an elaborate spring loaded toe trap with spaces for two 20 ga. rnds and two rifle rnds. Bore restrictions: left – .032, right – .011. Weight: 6 lb 4.4 oz. CONDITION: Very fine to extremely fine. Bbls retain 88-90% orig blue with about the half toward the muzzle end dark blue and the back half thinning to a blue/gray. Receiver & lockplates are silver metal color with the engraving sharp & clear. Wood is sound showing light to moderate wear and retains most of its fine orig finish with a few nicks & dings and some light mildew. Mechanics are crisp, strong bright shotgun bores and strong rifle bore, dark in the grooves. 4-54865 JR194 (2,500-5,000)
