FINE WESTLEY RICHARDS DROP ACTION DBL RIFLE. Cal. 500/465 Express 3-1/4”. SN 4895. Beautiful early rifle with 26” bbls, flat matted rib, pedestal mounted gold bead front sight, missing hood, with platinum line 5-leaf express sight graduated 100 to 500 yards. It has doll’s head rib extension third bite with dbl lumps, ejectors & dbl triggers. Right bbl is engraved with maker’s name & address and “MADE EXPRESSLY FOR LYON & LYON, CALCUTTA.” Chamber area of bbls is engraved on right side “FOR 465 H.V. CARTRIDGE” and “75GRS CORDITE 480GRS BULLET” on left side. Mounted with nicely figured, slab sawed walnut, straight grain through wrist, with wide, checkered beavertail forearm & pistol grip stock with raised checkered teardrop side panels & horn grip cap, 14-3/4″”over a solid Noshoc pad. Bottom of bbls & bottom of stock have sling eyes. Bottom of stock has a silver initial plate engraved “JEF”. Receiver is beautifully engraved with about 80% coverage intertwined foliate arabesque patterns with maker’s name in a ribbon on each side. Fences have side clips & a raised rib around back edges. All of appended metal is engraved to match. Accompanied by a fine Vermont Custom Case, black anodized, maroon velvet lined case, compartmented in bottom for stocked receiver, bbls, pair of snap caps & a large compartment containing a sling with hooks. Also accompanied by a large complement of extras including about 170 rds of orig factory Kynoch loaded ammunition in its orig boxes, 10 rds of A-Square solid ammunition, 63 rds of miscellaneous, once fired & virgin brass, 3 boxes of 50 rds each Barnes 500 grain rnd nose soft point bullets & 2 boxes of 50 rds each Barnes 500 grain rnd nose FMJ bullets. There are 150 loose rds of 500 grain Barnes rnd nose FMJ bullets & 70 rds of 480 grain solid steel bullets with four brass rotating bands. Also accompanying is a set of RCBS dies. Consignor states that this rifle is extremely accurate with factory ammunition as well as hand loads and that he hunted it on several safaris in Africa. Drop at the heel: 2”, drop at the comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 10 lbs. 15.04 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, as very professionally completely restored. Bbls & receiver are a fine strong blue with a small spot of rust on right bbl. Wood is sound with a clean, bright varnish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bores.
