*RARE L.C. SMITH MONOGRAM GRADE FEATHERWEIGHT DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. SN 17274. Beautiful & rare shotgun with 28″ bbls choked MOD/MOD with tapered concave matted rib & sgl ivory bead with an engraved wide gold band near chamber end. It has crossbolt rib extension, ejectors & Hunter One trigger. Right bbl is engraved “SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL” & left “MADE TO ORDER BY THE HUNTER ARMS CO. INC. FULTON, N.Y.” Rib extension is engraved “L.C. SMITH MONOGRAM GRADE”. Receiver & lockplates are beautifully engraved with two flying pigeons on each lockplate & a flying duck on bottom. All surrounded by foliate & floral & arabesque pattern engraving with about 80% coverage on receiver. Top tang has an engraved safety with “S” in gold. Engraving extends about 2″ over chambers with a small border pattern at muzzle. Trigger guard & forend iron are engraved to match. Forend release button is checkered & water table, standing breech & inside forend iron are beautifully jeweled as are bbl flats, lug & forearm lug. Mounted with spectacular burled honey & chocolate Circassian walnut with black insert full checkered & carved splinter forearm & straight stock with fleur-de-lis checkered & carved straight stock, 14-5/8″ over a fleur-de-lis carved & checkered butt. Both stock & forearm are numbered to gun. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter fully identifying this shotgun with two listings in records, one shows purchaser as “Suomen Asuuskauppojia” & the other “H.C. Glochmer Co.” on Nov. 22, 1919. Drop at heel: 2″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Bore restrictions: left – .014, right – .014. Wall thickness: left – .022, right – .025. Bore diameter: left – .606, right – .609. Weight: 6 lbs. 2.88 oz. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine, all matching as noted. Retains virtually all of its brilliant orig factory finish to both metal & wood. Bbls have slight muzzle edge wear. Case colors on receiver & lockplates are brilliant & orig with edge wear on fences. Trigger guard retains virtually all of its brilliant blue. Wood is sound with one or two very minor handling & storage marks & a series of tiny nicks on left side of buttstock.
