*VERY RARE L.C. SMITH GRADE A2 DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. SN 6343E. Extraordinarily rare small frame shotgun with 26″ bbls choked FULL/MOD with tapered concave matted rib, sgl bead with an engraved gold band toward chamber end. Right bbl is engraved “SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL” & left bbl is engraved “MADE TO ORDER BY THE HUNTER ARMS CO FULTON, NY”. It has crossbolt rib extension with ejectors & Hunter One trigger. Grade marking is on frame under toe of left sideplate. Receiver & lockplates are spectacularly engraved with full coverage foliate arabesque patterns on lockplates with maker’s name in gold on each side. Receiver has about 70% coverage with small vignettes on front sides with a setter on left side & pointer on right side. Trigger guard & all other appended parts are engraved to match including safety on top tang which also has “S” in gold. Engraving extends 1-1/2″ up bbls & around chamber end, on rib extension & around muzzles. Forend latch is checkered. Mounted with very beautiful streaky honey & chocolate French walnut with orig black tipped carved & checkered splinter forearm & straight grip replacement stock, 14-1/8″ over an orig type serrated black hard rubber buttplate. Drop at heel: 3-1/8″, drop at comb: 1-7/8″. Bore restrictions: left – .028, right – .015. Wall thickness: left – .026, right – .022. Bore diameter: left – .589, right – .604. Weight: 5 lbs. 12.48 oz. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbls retain virtually all of an exceptionally fine professionally restored finish. Receiver & lockplates retain about all of their orig case colors, strong & bright in sheltered areas, faded toward back of lockplates & moderately faded on bottom. Trigger guard retains most of a restored finish. Buttstock, a replacement as noted, retains about all of its fine custom finish. Forearm retains most of its orig finish, showing light to moderate wear. Ejectors are a little weak; otherwise mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bores. 4-56662 JR603 (32,500-47,500)
