UNSIGNED (American, Late 18th Century) PAIR OF ANCESTRAL PORTRAITS. Oil on canvas portraits of middle age man and woman. Housed in period ebonized wood frames with gilt liners. The half portraits show a gentleman in a brown coat with gold buttons with hand inside vest. Woman is seen with a double necklace of large pearls in a blue dress with lace edge. She wears a pink rose at top center of dress and she is wearing a bonnet. At one time they were housed with oval liners. Purportedly a merchant and wife from the Newburyport, Massachusetts area. SIZE: 30” x 25”. CONDITION: Relined, stretched on new stretcher but retaining its old stretcher atop. Restored with inpainting. Very good. 9-90602 MD (2,000-4,000)
