*SAVAGE MODEL 1899K LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30-30. SN 22690. Early deluxe rifle with 26″ tapered rnd bbl, Sheard front sight and a replacement Marbles semi-buckhorn rear sight with a Lyman locking tang sight. The receiver is engraved with usual “K” patterns consisting of vignettes of foliate arabesque panels on each side, some light scrolls on the upper left edge and leaf & border patterns on the top. It is fitted with very nicely figured Claro walnut with checkered schnable tip forearm and straight stock with crescent buttplate. Accompanying this lot are 2 letters from Roe S. Clark Arms (historian for Savage). One letter, dated Nov. 8, 1978, confirms gun’s configuration with a note “Fancy” preceeding the serial number. Rifle was accepted from the factory May 4, 1901 and shipped Sept. 30, 1903 to Marshall Wells Hardware Company. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Retains about all of a professionally restored finish to both metal & wood. Lever retains about 90% orig case colors, bright on the sides and sheltered areas. Stock has a small gouge on the left side panel and a few minor nicks & scratches otherwise. Good mechanics, bright shiny bore. 4-53842 JR70 (1,750-2,750)
