IMPORTANT INSCRIBED POCKET WATCH. The size 18 movement has no markings except the numbers on the silver case. The brass inner cover is inscribed “N32488 / made expressly for / Geo. H. Maynard / Boston,. Mass”. The key wind movement is partially functional but needs cleaning. Key is not present. Accompanying the watch are copies from DEEDS OF VALOR, a list of the recipients of the Medal of Honor prior to 1906, pages 415-417 of volume I, show a portrait of Maynard & a full page illustration of him winning the Congressional Medal of Honor. During the attack at Antietam, 17 Sept 1862, Maynard attached himself to 6 different regiments. In December, at Fredericksburg, he rescued several wounded soldiers under heavy fire. For this action Private Maynard was promoted to Captain & sent to Florida where he prevented the massacre of 108 captured Confederate soldiers. This unusual action earned him the Congressional Medal. CONDITION: The engine turning on the covers of the case show considerable wear. Leather carrying pouch shows minor wear. Inscription is fine. 4-31000 FS207 (2,500-3,500)
