MANNLICHER HAENEL NEW MODEL BOLT RIFLE. SN NSN. Cal. 10.75x68mm. Double set triggers. 23″ One third octagon to round bbl w/ integral matted top rib has one standing, 2 folding rear, and two bead pivoting front sights, has “C. G. Haenel Suhl Germany” inlaid in silver on top w/ “Guss-Stahl” on right and “Krupp – Essen” on left. Owners name “Edgar A. Mearns” is stamped on left side. Case hardened action has 50% coverage of nicely executed Germanic scroll w/ top of receiver ring stippled. Bolt handle has two panels of checkering on knob. Tops of cocking piece and wing safety are checkered. Hinged bottom metal has matching engraving and button release. Nicely figured and streaked European walnut stock measures 14-1/4″ over steel butt plate w/ right hand cheek piece, side panels, Schnabel tip, keyed forend, and 22 LPI checkering w/ double line and flat mullered borders. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Collection. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains most of orig blue, slight silvering at muzzle. Action retains 95% case color, silvering at front of bottom metal, and has been re-lacquered. Stock has orig finish w/ added varnish.
