*J. P. SAUER MAUSER MANNLICHER TYPE CARBINE. SN 225354. Cal. 30-06. Double set triggers. 19″ Full octagon integral rib bbl w/ flutes between rear and front sight is stamped “Fluid- Steel- Krupp- Essen” around breech. Engraved “30. U. S. G. 1906 Mod. Mauser.”on left side and “J. P. Sauer & Son, Suhl, Germany” at rear of matted rib w/ one standing, 1 folding rear sight, and longitudinally dovetailed silver bead front. Commercial Mauser action is stamped “Waffenfabrik Mauser – Oberndorf A/N.” on left side w/ Sauer number “225354” stamped on right side of stippled receiver ring. (Mauser no. 89899). Trigger guard has push button floor plate release. Case hardened bolt has butter knife handle w/ BU proofs. All other small parts have no. 99. Full length stock has 3 schnables, the last being in a horn muzzle cap. Stock measures 14-1/4″ over Sauer and Son logo ribbed horn butt plate w/ vacant silver oval, 26 LPI checkering w/ double line borders, raised side panels, 2 keys to secure bbl, and forend checkering to match buttstock. This rifle exactly matches specifications for Sauer carbine in 1933 Abercrombie and Fitch catalog w/ exception that bbl length is specified at 20″. Price at that time was $125.00. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains nearly all its rust blue. Receiver and trigger guard 90%+ orig bright blue. Bolt has most of its case color, silvering and flaking on handle. Bolt stop 30% of fire blue. Stock retains most of its oil finish w/ raised grain, numerous scratches and handling marks. Butt plate has moth damage. Rear sling loop is a replacement. Horn forend cap shows repair, and may be well done replacement. Bore is very fine. Rifle in need of good cleaning. 4-35820 MGM98 (4,000-6,000)
