*BABY FRAME WINCHESTER MODEL 23 CLASSIC SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN. SN CL28-289E. Cal. 28ga, 26″ bbls, matted vent rib with dual white sighting beads, IMP.CYL/MOD choke, ejectors and single selective trigger. Left bbl is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 23 CLASSIC – 28GA. 2-3/4″ / EAST ALTON IL. U.S.A.” Right side “MADE IN JAPAN”. Chamber end of rib is marked in gold “28”. The scaled size baby frame is engraved with some fine foliate arabesque scrolls and a raised gold quail in flight on bottom. Mounted with nicely figured walnut, checkered pistol grip, sculpted metal grip cap with leafy scroll engraved center, solid black Winchester recoil pad, blank gold initial oval, small checkered beavertail forend with ebony tip insert. Bore diameter: left -.552, right -.552. Bore restrictions: left -.017, right -.005. Wall thickness: left -.034, right -.031. Drop at heel:2-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Weight: 6lbs. 8oz. LOP 14-3/8″. The Classic series, limited to approximately 500 per gauge and is the only series that Winchester produced a small frame 28ga. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbls retain 98-99% orig blue with 3 small spots of shallow surface oxidation on right bbl. Receiver retains 98-99% orig blue with just a couple minor scratches. Stock is sound with sharp checkering, some minor handling marks, a shallow dent on lower left side tip of checkering and retains its fine orig finish. Forend is sound with sharp checkering, a couple minor handling marks and retains it fine orig finish.
