HOLLAND AND HOLLAND TOP LEVER HAMMER ROOK RIFLE WITH CASE. SN 10877. Cal. 25-20. Rebounding lock. 26″ Octagon bbl w/ matted top, one standing, 2 folding express sight, and transversally dovetailed front is engraved “Holland & Holland. 98, New Bond St. London.”, “295. SEMISMOOTH. BORE” on right side, and “Winners of All the “Field” Rifle Trials. 1883″ on the left. Bottom of bbl is stamped w/ black powder proof “.290” and SN “10877” (approx 1888). Case hardened action is lightly scroll engraved and has dual under lugs. Peninsula back action lock has scroll and “Holland & Holland” engraved. Short round serpentine hammer is scroll engraved w/ dense lightly figured and streaked European walnut pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/8″ over plain steel butt plate, has steel grip cap, and 22 LPI flat top checkering w/ mullered borders. Spring fastened splinter forend has horn tip and checkering to match buttstock. Leather CASE has central brass medallion, and remnants of shipping labels on lid. Interior is lined w/ red cloth, reproduction Holland and Holland label, and contains a 1987 bill of sale from Filli Rizzini for this rifle. PROVENANCE: Dr. Frank Miller Collection. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl has been re-lined, and retains 95% of its blue. Front sight is recent replacement. Action retains nearly all re-color hardening. Trigger guard, top lever and butt plate retain most of their re-blue. Stocks retain most of restored oil finish. Forend is missing one inch triangles of wood either side of barrel bolster. Action is tight. Bbl is on face. Bore is excellent. Lock is crisp. CASE is good. Straps are missing. Handle has been repaired. Partitions are tight.
