Left side bbl marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONNECTICUT U.S.A. / PAT NOV. 25, 90, DEC 6, 92, JULY 21, 96, FEB. 22, 98, JUNE 14, 98, OCT. 16, 1900, DEC. 25, 06, JULY 5, 10. 12GA. MOD.” WP proof marks can be found left side of matting at receiver ring and left side of matte top on front receiver ring. Slide bar is marked “MODEL 1897 / WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK.” Standard receiver with matte top, bolt marked “TRAP GUN”. Mounted with special ordered pistol grip, highly figured Circasian walnut with black diamond ebony inlay on both sides of wrist, checkered grip, deep-dish Winchester hard rubber buttplate. Forearm with wrap-around Trap grade checkering. Bore measurements: Diameter:.729, Restriction:.012, Wall thickness:.059, Drop at heel: 2-5/8″, Drop at comb: 1-3/4″, Weight: 7lbs. 9oz., LOP 13-3/4″. This exact gun is pictured and described twice in Winchester Shotguns and Shotshells, 2nd edition, by Ronald W. Stadt on pages 50 and 212. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl has 98% orig blue with a few fine scratches. Magazine tube has very good orig blue in protected areas with silvering from pumping action. Receiver has 95-97% orig blue with a few fine scratches, lightly silvering on sharp edges and tiny fine surface oxidation on rear left side. Wood is sound with sharp checkering, very good orig finish with a few minor handling marks. Forearm is sound with sharp checkering, very good orig finish and very minor handling marks.
