QUALITY FLORAL DECORATED LACQUERED BOX. The rectangular storage box with canted corners fitted with a conforming lid, the whole profusely decorated with textured polychrome floral sprays, all gilt heightened. SIZE: 5″ h. x 9″ l. x 7″ w. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection,.by descent from the estate of Caroline Wetmore Hiles (Warren, Pennsylvania – Brooklyn Heights, New York), to the present owner, to the present owner, a great-grand-daughter. After the death of her second husband, Mrs. Hiles, a suffragette, put her three sons in private schools and spent the rest of her life traveling the world by steamer with her English lady companion, Rose Pasco, and a cockatoo named Van Heemskerk. CONDITION: Very good overall with small dent in lid. Signed beneath the base “GANEMEDE 689”. 9-94942 (200-400)
