FINE CARVED WALNUT AND ROSEWOOD-VENEER TRANSITIONAL VICTORIAN ARMOIRE, ATTRIBUTED TO MALLARD. Mid-19th century. The rectangular case with stepped ogee-molded cornice surmounted by a scrolling foliate pierced crest centering a cartouche, the case fitted with a pair of molded panel doors flanked by carved pilasters, the interior fitted for shelves, having a medial shelf with aligned drawers. The base fitted with a pair of aligned short drawers, raised on bracket feet with applied ‘S’-scroll carvings, the rear legs blocked. Accompanied by three shelves. SIZE: 9’2″ h. x 5’10” overall w. x 23″ d. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. The Rev. H. Bezou, Metairie, LA. CONDITION: This breakdown model professionally restored with cleaned surfaces, retaining very good rich brown color. Door lock a quality replacement. Drawer locks absent. 9-93528 (4,000-8,000)
