PAUL DOUGHERTY (American, 1877-1947) HEAD ON INTO THE STORM. Large oil on canvas marine scene shows tall ship coming at viewer through heavy ocean swells. Light reflecting in clouds indicate a lessening of the storm though sea in dark colors rages on. Signed lower left “Paul Dougherty”. Housed in what appears to be its outstanding original carved and gesso decorated gilt frame. Back of canvas in old writing indicates artist and “Address-Lester Studios 30? East 57th Street, NYC”. PROVENANCE: From a fine Baltimore, Maryland area home. SIZE: 22” x 30”. CONDITION: Very good. 9-98484 (5,000-10,000)
