*CASED WESTLEY RICHARDS DROP LOCK DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 3373. Beautiful, scarce dbl with 30” bbls choked FULL/IMP MOD. With raised smooth concave rib, single ivory bead, with doll’s head extension. The maker’s name & address is on the rib. It has dbl lump with ejectors and single trigger. The receiver is boxlock with side clips, slightly rounded edges and has full coverage, spectacular foliate arabesque pattern engraving. The fences have raised narrow ribs with more open arabesque pattern engraving. The bottom of the receiver has a vignette of five flying ducks over a marsh scene. The trigger guard is lightly engraved and the trigger bow has a setter on point in a woodland scene. The grip cap is beautifully engraved to match and it has a gold oval initial plate engraved with the initials “GAK”. The opening lever and top tang are engraved and it has “SAFE” inlaid in gold. The top of the receiver is stepped and engraved “WESTLEY RICHARDS / PATENT ONE TRIGGER”. The forend iron is engraved to match. It is stocked, with very nicely grained English walnut, has a checkered splinter forearm with horn tip. It has checkered pistol grip stock with checkered teardrop side panels, 14-1/4” over a leather faced pad. It is accompanied by its original oak & leather green felt lined trunk case, compartmented for the shotgun, a round nickeled oil bottle and a 2-pc wood & brass wiping rod. Weight: 7 lbs. 11.2 oz. Drop at the heel 2-1/2”, at the comb 1-1/16”. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 93-95% strong original blue, slightly thinned and dull over the forearm carrying area. Receiver retains silvered case colors and the floorplate about 80% original blue. Trigger guard retains about 70% original blue and the opening lever about 90%. Wood is sound and retains most of its strong bright custom finish. Brilliant shiny bores, crisp mechanics. Locks are numbered to the shotgun and retain 75-80% original jeweling. Case is fine with a small repair to the leather on one end and is missing its original brass nameplate. Interior is extremely fine with yellowed, completely legible label. 4-51508 JR1023 (12,500-17,500)
