MEDIUM SIZED JAPANESE MATCHLOCK TEMPLE GUN. Cal. About 75. Usual configuration with 27-1/4” oct bbl overall length, with flared canon muzzle, wedge shaped front sight, with a grooved pedestal rear sight. It is mounted in a coarse dark wood made in two pieces with brass furniture and iron striker & pan. Overall length is 38-3/8”. The mechanism is typical matchlock with a swinging pan cover and the lock is a simple flat brass plate with a stubby trigger at the bottom and a brass hand rest. The entire top of the bbl is covered with beautiful silver inlays of seven birds, tree branches & pine needles with the moon & clouds all between the sights. Behind the rear sight are seven or eight other silver inlays of Japanese mythical beings. It has a simple hardwood rammer in a slot under the bbl. The bottom flat of the stock has a large Japanese character carved into the wood and there are Japanese characters on the pan cover and pan. CONDITION: Bbl retains 40-50% thin original blue with the balance a light blue/gray patina. Brass has a cleaned mellow patina and the wood is sound with a dark patina.
