*RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1897 FACTORY ENGRAVED BRUSH GUN. SN 79560. Cal. 12ga, 26″ bbl CYL. bore with single brass sighting bead. Top of bbl is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / NEW HAVEN CONN USA PAT NOV 25 90, DEC 6 92, JULY 21 96, FEB 22 98, JUNE 14 98”. “12” is found top of bbl at receiver ring with “CYL” just below on left. Slide bar is marked “WINCHESTER / MODEL 1897”. Receiver is factory engraved on left with setter on point in circle with scroll engraving on either side with wavy line border. Right side has scroll engraving with wavy line border. Inscribed “E.H. BALL” on top of receiver. Mounted with flame-grain American black walnut, uncheckered round knob pistol grip, Winchester hard rubber buttplate, 3-screw forearm with 14 rings forward of screws and 3 rings behind. Bore dimensions: Diameter: .722, Restriction: .005, Wall thickness: .056, Drop at heel: 2-7/8″, Drop at comb: 1-7/8″, Weight: 7lbs. 13oz., LOP 13-1/4″. Accompanied with Cody Firearms Museum Winchester letter identifying gun as Brush, 12ga, 26″ bbl, Take-Down, 93 stock, Receiver engraved $5.00-‘E.H. Ball’. Received in warehouse on July 29, 1899. Shipped from warehouse on July 31, 1899. CONDITION: Fine+. Bbl retains 85% orig blue with chamber area thinning and blending with a silver patina, normal minor nicks & scratches. Magazine tube shows orig blue in protected areas and silvering from carry and pumping action. Receiver has much of its orig blue on sides with top, bottom and forward portions silvering from normal use. Stock is sound with some minor nicks, dings & handling marks and retains a fine coat of added finish blending with some hand-worn patina in grip area. Forearm is sound with orig finish thinning and blending with hand-worn patina. Mechanics are crisp with head-space ring advanced one notch. Bright bore with small area of very shallow, fine pitting a few inches from muzzle. 4-40120 DS1 (12,000-18,000)
