*RARE SPECIAL PRESENTATION ENGRAVED DE GRADE FOX DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. SN 200231. Engraved in Gough style this beautiful Fox has 28″ Krupp fluid steel bbls choked FULL/MOD with tapered concave matted rib, sgl bead, crossbolt rib extension, ejectors & dbl triggers. Right bbl is engraved “KRUPP FLUID STEEL MADE EXPRESSLY FOR LEAPHY C. GOUGH” and left bbl is engraved by “A.H. FOX GUN CO. PHILA PA. U.S.A.” About 2-3/8″ of breech end of rib has vignette of three pheasants in a prairie scene with a gold band at each end. Receiver is wonderfully engraved with very tight; fine arabesque scrolls & 22 raised gold flower blossoms. Trigger bow has a gold wire heart with gold initials “LCG”. Opening lever, top tang, trigger guard & forend iron are engraved to match with a 23rd gold flower blossom on forend button. Engraving extends 1-3/4″ up bbls. Mounted in very nicely figured Circassian walnut with a special carved & checkered black insert splinter forearm & straight stock with checkered side panels & extensive checkering on wrist, 14″ over a serrated hard rubber buttplate. Water table is lightly engraved & jeweled & has the grade “D” on right side & “SPECIAL” on left side. It appears that this shotgun has been created from various parts as there is apparently another gun with same serial number. Serial numbers on inside of ejectors are “356884”, which was assigned to a Sterlingworth grade shortly after WWI & was a 16 gage. The other shotgun with same serial number is apparently also an upgraded gun. Consultation with a renowned Fox shotgun expert disclosed twenty-six items that may be at variance from what an orig high grade Fox shotgun should be. This, however, does not preclude this shotgun from being an original assembled for Mr. Gough to present to a lady in his life. No research was done to determine if someone named “Leaphy” was a relative or his wife. Drop at heel: 2-3/8″, drop at comb: 1-5/16″. Bore restrictions: left – .029, right – .013. Wall thickness: left – .022, right – .022. Bore diameter: left – .590, right – .610. Weight: 5 lbs. 13.12 oz. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Near new, retains virtually all of its fine strong orig finish to both metal & wood. Bbl has one or two minor scratches. Receiver retains virtually all of its orig bright case colors, very slightly thinned on front of bottom edge. Trigger guard retains virtually all of its orig blue. Wood has one or two minor nicks. Right ejector is out of time & needs adjustment; otherwise mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bores. A rare opportunity to own a very rare Fox shotgun. 4-55471 JR112 (17,500-27,500)
