SMITH & WESSON FIRST MODEL AMERICAN SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 44 American. SN 6083. Blue finish with 8” keyhole bbl, half moon German silver front sight with smooth 2-pc walnut grips that are matching numbered inside right grip. This appears to be the beginning of the “transition model American” as it has a transitioned 1.423” cyl vs. the older 1.450” cyl but does not have the transitional model interlocking hammer/bbl catch. CONDITION: Very fine. Overall retains about 80% strong, glossy, orig, factory blue with the losses primarily due to flaking, although there is slight muzzle & sharp edge wear. Hammer retains about 90% faded case colors and triggerguard 25-30% strong case colors, mostly in sheltered areas with balance turned silver. The extractor pawl is a little sticky, otherwise mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore with a couple of spots of light pitting. Some of the screws are slightly battered. Grips are very fine with light edge wear and retain a smooth orig oil finish. Altogether a beautiful First Model American. Baldwin Collection 4-30029 JR106 (7,500-12,500)
