EXTRAORDINARY DELUXE ENGRAVED & GOLD INLAID STEYR SINGLE SHOT TARGET RIFLE. SN None visible.. Caliber appears to be 10.5x47R Austrian. Nearly unbelievably beautiful, this spectacular rifle has a 29″ fluted rnd bbl with eight raised convex rnd ribs with top beautifully matted. Front sight is dovetailed at muzzle & is Schutzen style sight with with curved wings & a tiny pin sight. Rear bbl sight is also Schutzen style with clock key elevation adjustment & it has a tang mounted Schutzen style clock key locking screw adjustment with large eye piece. Top of bbl in front of rear sight is inlaid in gold “OESTERREICHISCHE WAFFENFABRIKS: GESELLSCHAFT STEYR”. Receiver has a Werndl style rotating breech block with central splindle that extends through rear of action & is designed to be held in place with a locking detent, which is missing. It has side mounted hammer on a back action lock & has an elaborate Schutzen style finger rest trigger guard with dbl set triggers. It is mounted in extraordinarily beautiful French walnut 1-pc stock with deep Schutzen style cheekpiece and a semi-Schutzen style heavy steel buttplate with short prongs. Bbl is retained by a sgl key through oval steel escutcheons. The foregoing only describes the mechanics of this rifle. Beyond that it is nearly incomprehensible the elaborate decorative workmanship on both metal & wood. Receiver & all of appended metal are elaborately relief engraved with intertwined foliate arabesque patterns that has a fine stippled background. Breech block thumb-piece is relief engraved with round dots & buttplate with tiny flower blossoms. Top & sides of receiver, bbl root, top of breech block, hammer, lockplate & trigger guard have delicate raised gold wire inlays in spectacular intertwined foliate patterns with fleur-de-lis. Entire tang mounted sight & rear bbl sight are also matching engraved. Stock has a deep relief carved forend tip with matching deep relief carvings completely around receiver & down wrist terminating in a large flower blossom back of bottom tang. Carving patterns are of leaves & berries and extend to a panel on right side of butt with another behind cheekpiece, all with fine stippled background. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus. Bbl retains most of its strong orig factory blue. Receiver, lockplate & hammer retain darkened case colors. Trigger guard is faded case colors with trigger plate having bright case colors in sheltered areas. Buttplate also has spots of bright case colors in sheltered areas having mostly faded to gray. Stock is sound with a few minor nicks & scratches & retains most of its orig hand rubbed oil finish with moderate wear on forestock & light handling wear on carving and a slight damage to left side panel.
