ENGRAVED SMITH & WESSON NEW MODEL NO. 3 SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 44 Russian. SN 5182. Usual configuration with 6-1/2” keyhole bbl, altered, half moon front sight with 2-pc ivory grips that have a small, raised carved, Mexican eagle on right side. Receiver has about 85% deep etch engraving with leaf & vine patterns and has a fine stippled background. Mexican eagle is very nicely executed with a blind escutcheon in right grip. Serial number is relocated to left side of frame under grip. CONDITION: Good to very good. No orig finish remains being a cleaned, bright metal finish with some scattered light pitting. Some screws are lightly battered. Mechanics are fine, strong bore with scattered pitting. Bbl is a little loose in hinge and latch. Grips show moderate to heavy wear, commensurate with condition of revolver and have had the blind escutcheon reglued. Baldwin Collection 4-30024 (3,000-4,000)
