EXTRAORDINARY FANCY ENGRAVED CHICAGO WORLD’S COLOMBIAN EXPEDITION PARKER AH GRADE DOUBLE BBL DAMASCUS SHOTGUN. Cal. 10 ga. SN 67976. Fine early ten bore with 32″ Damascus steel bbls, tapered concave matted rib with single bead, doll’s head extension, extractor, and dbl triggers. Receiver is beautifully engraved with full-coverage; extraordinarily fine foliate arabesque patterns with larger scrolls on the fences and a single raised rib behind the fences. It has fine border patterns completely around the side panels and floor plate. The trigger guard is nicely engraved with two bird dogs, and it has serpentine opening lever. It is mounted with extremely beautiful burl French or Circassian walnut with checkered splinter forearm & pistol grip stock with raised, carved, fleur-de-lis, checkered side panels and ribbon carved wrist 14″ over a checkered skeleton buttplate. Accompanied by a copy of reprinted pages from The Parker Story which lists all of the guns displayed at the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. This Parker is specifically listed. Page 324 of the same book has a chart of Grade 6 hammerless doubles with Damascus steel bbls, and lists only 8 made in 10 ga. with 32″ bbls. Page 608 has 2 large photographs of this exact gun. Drop at heel: 2-3/4″, drop at comb: 1-7/8″. Bore diameter: left – .762, right – .761. Weight: 9 lbs 10.24 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain about all of their orig Damascus pattern with about 80% strong blue/gray color with the balance thin and turned silver. Receiver retains 35-40% orig case colors, strong and bright on the top tang and trigger plate with faded colors on the sides and around the fences, faded to silver elsewhere. Trigger bow retains about 75% thin blue. Wood is sound with a nick by the top tang and a few light handling and use marks elsewhere. Forearm shows moderate to heavy wear and retains 60-70% of original varnish. Buttstock shows light to moderate wear and retains most of its original bright varnish. Mechanics are fine, brilliant, shiny bores. 4-59100 (22,500-32,500)
