*RARE PARKER A-1 SPECIAL OR AHE GRADE DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 137690. Somewhat of an enigma, this spectacular Parker has all the attributes of an A1 Special with triple raised ribs behind fences and deep relief engraving. Water table is marked with an “A” below the serial number and a “1” above serial number. It is identified in Parker Gun Identification & Serialization book as a Grade 7 AA with Whitworth barrels and otherwise exactly as found. Built on a #2 frame, it has 30″ bbls choked FULL/FULL with tapered concave matted rib, ivory front bead, doll’s head extension, ejectors & gold washed dbl triggers. Rib is marked “WHITWORTH STEEL”. Receiver is beautifully engraved with very deep relief foliate & floral patterns with fine stippled background having full coverage with three raised ribs behind fences and a raised fleur-de-lis & flower blossom on each edge. Opening lever, top tang, trigger guard, forend iron & 2-1/4″ up bbls are engraved to match. Trigger guard also has teardrop & diamond filigree cutouts. It has maker’s name in relief engraving on both sides of receiver. Mounted with spectacular exhibition quality French or Circassian walnut with full checkered & fleur-de-lis carved splinter forearm & pistol grip stock with fleur-de-lis carved side panels & grip, 13-7/8″ over a solid red pad. Grip cap has an oval gold initial plate with the intertwined initials “CBE” or a combination thereof. Accompanied by a Parker letter indicating this shotgun was shipped Oct. 15, 1906 to E.B. Chandler of San Antonio, TX. It is listed in Order Book #70 as an “A NO. 1 SPECIAL HAMMERLESS” with 30″ Whitworth steel bbls & a Silvers rubber pad. Its price was $529.50. Also accompanied by a modern chocolate brown maroon felt lined trunk case with maker’s label in lid containing snap caps, an English oil bottle & 2-pc ebony wiping rod. Drop at heel: 3″, drop at comb: 1-3/4″. Bore restrictions: left – .039, right – .034. Wall thickness: left – .030, right – .026. Bore diameter: left – .695, right – .701. Weight: 7 lbs. 9.92 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain most of an extremely fine professionally restored finish with bright orig quality rust blue with some slight thinning at muzzles. Receiver is a cleaned metal color, wood is sound & retains most of a wonderful professionally restored finish. Crisp mechanics, bright shiny bores. Case is near new. 4-55477 JR136 (25,000-40,000)
