LARGE CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE EWER. 19th century. This fine example based on the Persian form with pear-shaped body painted in rich cobalt-blue tones, the tall neck with scrolling floral sprays and stiff plantain leaf bands below the widely flaring rim, applied to one side with a large shaped handle decorated with scrolling vinery and to the other with a long curved spout similarly decorated and secured by a strut decorated with cloud bands, all supported on a short straight foot encircled by a classic geometric band. The ewer fitted with a domed lid with finial. SIZE: 15-3/4″ h x 12″ l x 8″ w. PROVENANCE: From a fine Maine home. CONDITION: Very good overall. Vertical hairline crack running from upper rim down neck to shoulder and beneath top of handle. 9-22130 (500-800)
