*FINE CASED PARKER AAHE GRADE DBL BBL SHOTGUN 2-BBL SET. Cal. 20 ga. SN 239279. Built on an “O” frame with 28″ bbls choked SKEET/SKEET and 30″ bbls choked FULL/FULL. The 28” bbls have a Parker Ventilated rib and the 30” bbls have a tapered concave matted rib. Both bbls have dbl ivory beads, doll’s head extensions with ejectors and a Parker gold-plated sgl selective trigger. The 30” bbls are marked “PEERLESS STEEL” which appears to be a re-rolled mark and serial number on lug appears to have been re-stamped over remnants of another number. Receiver is beautifully engraved with full coverage patterns consisting of large vignette of two quail on left side, two pheasants on right side and a large spaniel’s head holding a dead woodcock on floorplate. These vignettes are all surrounded with very fine, very well executed foliate arabesque patterns. Fences have two raised ribs around rear edges. Top tang has “S” in gold and bottom tang has serial number in gold. Bottom front of receiver has “PARKER BROS.” in raised gold. The 28″ bbls have a large raised gold “2” at the rear end. The opening lever, top tang, trigger guard & forend iron are engraved to match and engraving patterns extend about 2-7/8″ over chamber areas on 28″ bbls & about 2-1/4″ on 30″ bbls. The 30″ bbls have a different pattern. Mounted with highly figured American walnut with a long fully checkered & fleur-de-lis carved beavertail forearm and rnd knob semi-pistol grip stock with raised carved & checkered fleur-de-lis side panels with extensively checkered wrist, 13-3/4″ over an engraved & checkered skeleton buttplate. Bottom of grip has a round gold initial plate. Accompanied by a Parker letter identifying this shotgun as having been shipped Sept. 14, 1936 to Gus Peret. It was returned on Nov. 10, 1937 and re-shipped to Frank P. Ponce. It is identified as a 20 ga. AAHE with 28″ bbls & sgl trigger. The 1937 Parker Gun Price List shows a cost of $776.50. Additionally accompanied by a brief biography of Gus Peret who, for 35 years, was an exhibition shooter & representative for Peters, Remington & Parker. An additional accompaniment is an article from the May 1922 Outdoor Life magazine which details Mr. Peret’s shooting of a big brown bear in Alaska along with three eagles. It is also accompanied by a fine, dark brown, maroon felt-lined, oak & leather, trunk case compartmented for all elements of the shotgun & also contains two sets of snap caps, a square oil bottle, 2-pc ebony cleaning rod & tools. Case has its orig brown canvas & leather cover. Drop at heel: 3-3/8″, drop at comb: 2″. Bore restrictions: 28″ bbls: left – .011, right – .007; 30″ bbls: left – .029, right – .020. Wall thickness: 28″ bbls: left – .018, right – .026; 30″ bbls: left – .026, right – .030. Bore diameter: 28″ bbls: left – .608, right – .619; 30″ bbls: left – .597, right – .597. Weight with 28″ bbls: 6 lbs. 14.4 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain virtually all of their professionally restored finish with only very minor sharp edge wear. Receiver retains virtually all of a Turnbull style case colored restoration with brilliant case colors. Wood is sound & retains virtually all of a professionally restored finish.
