*RARE SMOOTHBORE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. SN 226032. Usual configuration with 7-1/2″ bbl, standard markings with 2-line patent address on the frame and rampant Colt in a circle. It has beautiful 2-pc silver Colt medallion pearl grips. The bore is completely smooth, without rifling, and measures .460″ at the muzzle. It is accompanied by two Colt factory letters providing identical information and indicates shipment May 3, 1902 to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co., Chicago, Illinois in a shipment of five like guns. Also accompanying is a copy of a letter from the BATF dated March 29, 1974 exempting this revolver from the provisions of the National Firearms Act and classifying it as a Curio & Relic. This revolver is pictured on page 47 of the book THE 36 CALIBERS OF THE COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY, Brown, wherein he states that there were only four such revolvers ever made and that all four were made on special order for Pawnee Bill & Buffalo Bill for use in their Wild West Shows. He states that this revolver was made for Pawnee Bill when he was with Buffalo Bill and that the bbl has a slight choke. Inside of grip marked “Pawnee Bill”. CONDITION: Good to very good. No orig finish remains with the bbl & ejector rod housing retaining a medium gray patina with some scattered light pitting near the muzzle. Frame & grip frame retain a dark gray patina with fine pitting around the forcing cone area. Grips have a small line by the medallion on each side with some age lines on the right side, otherwise have great fire and beautiful character.
