*RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 21 DELUXE FIELD GRADE SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 13597. Cal. 20ga, 26″ bbls, matted, tapered concave rib, white front Silver center sighting beads, 2-3/4″ chambers, WS1/WS2 chokes, ejectors and single selective trigger. The left side of bbl at chamber is marked “WINCHESTER-20 GAUGE / 2-3/4 CHAM.” Bbl flat is marked “DELUXE”. The rare early flat-side receiver is marked on trigger plate “DELUXE” over the screw and “FIELD” below it. Mounted with feather-grain walnut, checkered straight grip, leather-covered recoil pad, gold initial oval engraved “J.T.N./10-7-51″. Multi-point wrap-around, checkered splinter forend. Bore diameter: left -.613, right -.616. Bore restrictions: left -.006, right -(.013). Wall thickness: left -.025, right -.026. Drop at heel:1-3/8″, drop at comb:1-9/16″ . Weight: 6lbs. 6oz. LOP 13-1/2”. Accompanied by Cody Firearms Museum fact sheet identifying gun as a 20ga deluxe with checkered butt with 13-7/8″ pull, 2″ drop at heel, 1-1/2″ drop at cone, 1-3/4″ pitch, date started 5-2-1946 finished 7-18-1946 for Cook, Newton & Smith on order number 2957-38-A. No other information was provided. Also accompanying gun is an unmarked leather leg o mutton case stenciled “J.T.N. ESSEX, CONN.” CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 95% orig blue with some minor nicks & scratches and a couple minor spots of faint surface oxidation. Receiver retains 97% of a probable factory restored blue just starting to thin on bottom edges with crisp, clear markings on trigger plate. Stock is sound with very nice checkering, a few minor nicks & light handling marks and retains a factory finish. Forend is sound with good checkering, a few handling marks and retains a factory finish. Mechanics are crisp with non-automatic safety, strong ejectors and bright shiny bores. Leg o mutton has broken locking strap, unstitched hinge, but overall is in nice condition with some minor scuffing. 4-40452 BDT66 (5,500-7,500)
