EZIO MARTINELLI (American, 1913-1980) TWO ABSTRACT WORKS. Oil on canvas Unframed One unsigned; one signed “E. Martinelli 46″, lower right Ezio Martinelli studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, Italy and at the National Academy of Design in New York from 1932-1936. Stylistically, Martinelli was part of the first generation of “New York School” abstract artists. Not unlike his contemporaries, including Willem DeKooning and Jackson Pollack, Martinelli was greatly influenced by the artistic and psychological theories currently in vogue. Surrealism, mythology, and the working of the subconscious were incorporated into a style that while being dynamic was clearly grounded in an ordered composition. SIZE: 50″ x 36″. Overall: 48″ x 36”.
