ITALIAN RENAISSANCE REVIVAL CARVED WALNUT SAVONAROLA CHAIR. Late 19th century. The crest rail carved with putti, centering an armorial crest amongst scrolling foliate and floral vinery, joined to the horizontal arms by satyr-like masks, continuing to carved winged mermaid hand grips, the arms scale-carved continuing to ‘X’-form hinged supports and seat, each ‘X’-form leg support joined to a carved and scrolled base. SIZE: 41-3/4″ h. of back. PROVENANCE: Private collection of Dr. & Mrs. Winfield Gibbs, Sunbury, PA. CONDITION: Retains original surfaces with excellent patina. In very fine condition with no damage or restorations noted. 9-92266 (450-650)
