LEE GATCH, JR. (American 1902-1968) “THE CHILDREN’S TAPESTRY”. Mixed media, linen and oil on wood abstract scene shows a figure, a rooster, a jumping deer, a yellow half moon, orange and blue sun and other shapes. Signed lower right “Gatch/63″. On reverse is the original artist title. Also a clipped title from an exhibition. Housed in a gilt edge simple frame with black lining. Born near Baltimore, Gatch studied at the Maryland Institute of Fontainebleau and Academic Modern in Paris. Gatch’s teachers included John Sloan, Moise Kisling and Andrew Lhote. While in Paris he was influenced by Vuillard and Bonnard, his mature style is identifiably a vey American interpretation of Post-Impressionism, Cubism and Surrealism SIZE: 16″ x 22”.
