RARE GERMAN HUNTING KNIFE WITH DAMASCUS BLADE THAT BELONGED TO HERMAN GOERING. Very rare knife with 11-1/2″ thick Damascus blade 1-1/8″ wide x 1/4″ thick & a 4″ clip point flat ground blade, made from beautiful hand hammered Damascus. About 5-1/2″ of spine of blade has beautiful file work. It has a beautiful 800 fine silver oval shaped hand guard, so designated on right side, designed to fit over the top of the now missing sheath. Left side of handguard has a 3/4″ shield with the Herman Goering family crest of a raised arm wearing armor holding a ring or wreath. It has beautiful foliate & floral ferrule & pommel cap with a fluted crown on cap. Handle is tapered round smooth ivory. Handle of this knife is similar to another documented Goering knife sold through Julia’s a number of years ago. It is well known & documented that Herman Goering was from an old & wealthy family and a very active & dedicated conservationist & hunter. He was known to have a very large arsenal of personal hunting arms & established a number of hunting preserves throughout Germany & Eastern Europe. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Silver has been polished a long time ago & is now beginning to oxidize. Blade has a few scattered small spots of surface discoloration.
