CONTINENTAL CLASSICAL EMPIRE FIGURAL MANTEL CLOCK. Mid-19th century. The stepped architectural marble base cast with anthemion leaves and gadrooning, raised on scrolled feet, the uppermost section centering a silvered dial with applied gold five-pointed star. Seated above is an allegorical robed female figure of a mathematician reclining on a marble sphere. SIZE: 21″ h. x 15-1/2″ overall l. x 6-1/4″ d. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private Gulf Coast collection. CONDITION: The golden marble case with minor flecks and scratches. The castings original with very good patina.
