UNSIGNED (American School, Early 19th Century) PORTRAIT OF THE SEA CAPTAIN “WALTER MACFARLANE”. Half portrait of a seated gentleman wearing a dark overcoat with large brass buttons. His arm rests on the crest of a Boston/Salem style chair. Typed information on reverse indicates sitter being born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1803 being the United States Consul at Florence, Italy about 1830 and dying in 1833 at Poughkeepsie, New York. Housed in a replacement gilt molded wood frame. SIZE: 29” x 24”. CONDITION: Very good, relined. 9-74598 MD (2,500-4,000)
