*DESIRABLE L.C. SMITH IDEAL GRADE SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN. SN FWS-56678. Cal. 12 ga. 26″ bbls, checkered tapered solid rib, dual ivory sighting beads, IMP.CYL/MOD chokes, rare 3″ chambers as marked on water table, extractors and dbl triggers. Chamber area of right bbl is marked “L.C.SMITH-12GA-IDEAL-FULTON,N.Y.U.S.A.” The featherweight frame is engraved in standard ideal pattern of bold leafy scroll and “L.C. SMITH” on each side plate, zig-zag border around each plate, and some moderate leafy scroll on balance. Mounted with nicely figured straight grain walnut, checkered pistol grip, hard black rubber grip cap, silver style 1″ recoil pad, checkered beavertail forend, with elongated oval escutcheon. Bore diameter: left -.727, right -.727. Bore restrictions: left -.025, right -.008. Wall thickness: left -.041, right -.043. Drop at heel: 2-9/16″, drop at comb: 1-9/16″. Weight: 7lbs. 14oz. LOP 14-5/16″. Accompanied with Cody Firearms Museum L.C. Smith fact sheet, identifying as an ideal grade, 12 ga. with 26″ bbls, started 12-20-1949 and shipped 2-22-1950 to Witt’s Hardware Co. and by SN would make this one of the last few 100 guns to be shipped. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 97-98% orig blue with some normal minor nicks & scratches, a small rub mark on bottom from forend, a couple tiny spots of faint surface oxidation. Receiver retains 85-90% strong orig case colors, thinning and blending with silver across bottom. Trigger guard retains most of its orig blue. Stock is sound with good checkering, tiny chip and hairline crack behind top tang, a few minor handling marks, and retains orig finish that has been professionally cleaned. Forend is sound with good checkering, a couple minor nicks & dings, and retains orig finish that has been professionally cleaned.
