22″, (56 CM), FRENCH POUPEE. Fine quality doll in grand size, this bisque head blue-eyed doll swivels on a separate bisque shoulder plate. The head is marked “6” with no marks found on the shoulder, but unquestionably produced by Gaultier. She has lovely pale bisque with gently shaded lips, pale blue threaded paperweight eyes, pierced ears, and firm kid body with gussets at the elbows, hips, and knees. She wears an elaborate brown human hair wig, parted in the center with a large braided bun in back, with a floral bouquet holding the braids in place. The lovely antique straw bonnet with pink silk ribbon and lace and feather trim is in excellent condition. The elaborate ball gown is made of fine lace and French brocade silk, but unfortunately is deteriorating, especially in the back. She has lovely antique underwear, gold knit socks, and period brown leather fashion boots which button on the side and impressed on the soles with the number “4” within a keystone. CONDITION: Doll, itself, is in excellent condition; costume distressed. 1-7343 RS (2,500-3,500) Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll - Spring 2007 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
