SMALL BRONZE BUST OF BUDDHA. Antique cast bronze bust now mounted on a later wood stand. This example probably of Thai origins, Siam, present day Thailand depicted with a conical headdress and appears to have been the head of a statue. SIZE: Bust: 5-1/4″ h. 7-3/4″ overall h. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection,.by descent from the estate of Caroline Wetmore Hiles (Warren, Pennsylvania – Brooklyn Heights, New York), to the present owner, a great-grand-daughter. After the death of her second husband, Mrs. Hiles, a suffragette, put her three sons in private schools and spent the rest of her life traveling the world by steamer with her English lady companion, Rose Pasco, and a cockatoo named Van Heemskerk. CONDITION: With old dark surfaces and triangular loss to back of head. 9-94948 (300-400)
