ATTRIBUTED TO HENRY “HY” HINTERMEISTER (American, 1897-1972) A STINKY PREDICAMENT. Oil on canvas illustrative scene shows a fisherman balancing on a rock and fallen tree with fly rod high in the air landing a fish with a net in the other. He is called by his fellow fisherman to glance behind him where a skunk is walking down the fallen tree. Housed in a period gilt frame. Unsigned but clearly the subject matter and technique used by this fine illustrator. Accompanying the lot is a metal advertising sign for Champagne Velvet Beer which is after an illustration which is signed “Hy Hintermeister’. Both items have similar characters and a comical flare. SIZE: 17-1/4″ x 23-1/4″. Sign: 14-1/4″ x 19-1/4”. CONDITION: Sign in good condition with some light scratches and dimples. Painting is very good. 9-96385 (1,200-1,500)
