US COLT SINGLE ACTION REVOLVER. Cal. 45LC. SN 31415. 7-1/2” rnd bbl. Standard markings on bbl and frame. Factory letter shows that this was delivered to the US Government inspector at the Colt factory on October 28th, 1876. This is verified by the date over the “DAL” cartouche on left side of grip. Lt. David A. Lyle was the government inspector during this period. Cartouche on right side of grip “JTC” was for sub-inspector John T. Cleveland. His initials also appear on bottom of bbl and cyl. Louis Draper’s initials appear on frame. There are faint initials scratched on butt of revolver. A letter from John Kopec which also accompanies the revolver, speculates that this may be one of the 1,500 or so revolvers issued at this time to state militias. CONDITION: Smooth gray patina with scattered light pitting. Traces of blue on ejector rod housing and casehardening at front of frame and hammer. Grips show wear at high points but little wear elsewhere. Mechanically fine. 4-30983 FS178 (10,000-15,000)
