RARE & UNUSUAL SPECIAL ORDER WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-75. SN 1522. Special order rifle with 28″ oct bbl, full magazine, bead front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight with a Lyman tang sight missing its inner staff. It has the very rare uncheckered capped pistol grip buttstock with crescent buttplate and single set trigger. This is a 2nd model with the screwed on dust cover rail and a checkered impressed thumb print dust cover. The bbl is a later factory installation as it has the “WP” proof over the chamber and top of the receiver ring. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbl retains 92-93% strong bright orig blue with edge wear and a few freckles of light surface rust. Magazine tube retains 97-98% strong orig blue, the forend cap about 85% thinning blue and the receiver 88-90% strong bright orig blue with some fine scratches and a few scattered spots of light to moderate rust pitting. Lever has case colors in the sheltered areas with the balance turned silver with some small spots of pitting. Hammer retains about 85% muted case colors. Wood is sound with a couple of repaired slivers by the upper tang with the stock retaining most of an old restored finish and the forearm a wonderful dark hand rubbed patina. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bore with some light pitting in the grooves. 4-54887 JR181 (10,000-15,000)
