CHARLES BITTINGER (AMERICAN, 1879 – 1970) TEA TIME. Outstanding oil on canvas interior scene shows an elegant young woman seated in a tall, French armchair wearing an elegant, satin white gown with magenta shawl. She looks toward the viewer and holds a small teacup. On the mahogany Hepplewhite inlaid card table rests a lacquered tray with a oriental export pink decorated teapot, creamer and cup and saucer. Also on the table is a large Canton bowl filled with blue and yellow pansies. The backdrop is a curtained wall in blue with the edge of a framed painting and grandfather clock. Light shines from above, lighting up her and the teapot. Signed lower left and dated “1918”. Housed in a fine gesso-decorated gilt replacement frame. SIZE: 32″ X 26″. CONDITION: Relined.
